Writing has been my passion for as long as I can remember, but unlike many writers, I have always enjoyed the editing and proofreading process as well. I grew up happily helping my friends, fellow students, and older brother (shh I wasn’t supposed to ever tell anyone) with their school papers and English assignments.
Several years ago, I joined the writing communities on Instagram and Twitter to bolster me in my efforts to draft and complete my various personal Works In Progress, including two novels, a children’s books series, and a cookbook. Through these two communities, I have made amazing connections with other writers and have been lucky enough to be a part of their journeys in small ways.
One day a critique partner reached out to me to help him with a new story. After giving my feedback, he wrote to tell me how helpful my critique had been. I was astounded and flattered when he then asked if I would consider editing his full manuscript. Over the moon, I agreed to work with him. Through the journey of providing complete, muti-level editing for his book, I felt that I had finally discovered my “calling” in life.
Since then, I have worked with many authors, as ghostwriter and/or editor, on their articles, short stories, collections, nonfiction books, and novels. Traveling and living in Japan, France, Australia, New Zealand, and Trinidad and Tobago, as well as several states across the US, has expanded my familiarity with many cultures, languages, dialects, and accents. I love reading work by regionally varied and international authors.
My favorite part of being an editor is building working relationships, and often friendships, with my clients and watching them go from trepidatious about both their manuscript and having an editor, to feeling thrilled and confident with their polished final draft.
